First Year

Avery,

You've been with us for a year now.  And BOY what a year it's been.  We've had a couple downs, but mostly ups.  You, my dear, are the best baby we could have ever imagined having.  You still sleep around 10 hours a night and take a couple naps during the day that range from 45 min to 2 hours.  You eat just about anything we put in front of you and love food.  Lately, your favorite has been cheese.

The doctor says you're super healthy.  We took you in the day after your birthday and you weighed 18.5 pounds which puts you in the 30%ile.  You are 27.25 inches (yes my darling, you're short) which puts you in the 3%ile.  And, you have a big head.... We've been transitioning you to milk which has been an adventure.  You'll only drink it if it's a certian temperature and you DON'T want it out of a sippy cup.  I guess I'll give up on that for a little while.  I'd rather you be drinking milk from a bottle than not drinking anything at all.

A few days before your birthday you were trying to take steps towards Daddy and I.  Since then, you're quite the little walker.  The first week after your birthday you would walk for about 4-6 steps then crawl.  The next week you transitioned to mostly walking.  Now, you walk everywhere and even try to run.  I laugh because you get distracted when you walk and fall down as soon as something catches your eye.  We're all so impressed at how well you've adjusted to using shoe, and even walking out on the grass.

On your birthday, you had lots of people here to celebrate with you!  Grandpa and Grandma Clark, Uncle David, Aunt Sissy, Erin, Grandpa and Grandma Butler, Uncle Mikey and even your Great Grandpa and Grandma's where here (Clark and Dixon).  Aunt Jen and Karsyn were here to celebrate too.  Uncle David, Erin and Grandpa had to leave because David had to go get his appendix removed.  That was a not so happy part of the day.  But, he's doing just fine and missed you!  He bought you a very sweet book about the sleepy rabbit.  He'll come read it to you soon.

You loved the carrot cake I made you.  I think you liked the frosting more though.  We had homemade ice-cream, finger foods and yummy punch.  You were asleep when everyone got here.  You were taking a much needed nap.  That meant that later, you were soooo happy opening presents, eating cake, and swinging on your new swing.  We had a great day!

Avery, you are so calm, funny, social and lovable.  You are getting more snugly, which Daddy and I appreciate.  You correctly use "Uh-oh" when something falls (or you throw something to the ground).  You know who your dad is, but you generally call any male "da-da".  You throw around the word "mum" but I'm not sure you really associate it with me.  You can repeat "dog" and sometimes "cat", although, you have no clue what that means.  You love to mimic laughing, growling, and other sound effects.  You think you're hilarious, but so do we.  Most days you're full of smiles and laughter.  Every so often, you have grumpy days where I just think you need more sleep.  You're always so happy right after you've woken up.  Little one, you have no fear and you scare me half to death.  I've found you more than once 3 steps up on the stairs, you will walk off the step at Grandma's, you've tumbled out the door because you wanted to know what was outside.  This week I caught you standing on your high chair tray trying to crawl onto the counter (we've strapped you in since then).  You are curious and have no second thoughts about what you want (surprise, surprise).  And....we love you for that!  You are everything I could have imagined you'd be at this age and so, SO much more.

Thank you for being such a darling.  Thank you for being my daughter.  Daddy and I love you forever and always, with all our hearts.  Now, if I can just teach you to give kisses instead of turn away from me every time :)

Love you Avery Bug,

Mommy

Almost a Year!!

Well Aves, you're 11 months old. I'm so proud of you for all that you can accomplish every day. You love to stand on your own, you have even taken a couple of steps. Your growing up so quickly, I can't believe it! You love to be outside but aren't quite sure about the grass. You love to be around Mom and Dad, especially Dad. I can't believe you'll be a year old in just a few short weeks.

You are still a great eater, you've finally popped up a couple of teeth. Bananas aren't quite your favorite anymore. Now... You love cheese!!! LOVE cheese! It makes me laugh how excited you get when you see it, stuff your face and smile at me. I love you so much! You're such a happy little girl!! I'm excited for your next doctor's appointment to see exactly how much you've grown.

I love you more and more every day, and I love your snuggles when I am so honored to receive them!

8 Months and Growing!!

Avery,

Oh my Heavens!!! Please stop growing!  We officially go into the doctor next month, but just as a guess...I'm assuming you weigh around 16 pounds.  You're still very little for your age, but you've turned into quite the chunk.  You love to listen to yourself make noises.  All sorts of noises.  You like to spit and slobber.

You.....as I typed this....you just rolled to your stomach for the first time, ever...

You're laying on the ground hoping I'll pick you up, but I think it's ok for you to play with your toys.  Apparently, you CAN roll (WE KNEW IT!!!!) just kept us guessing.  Uh oh, my baby is one step closer to being mobile.

Well, that changed my whole post!!!! You, can roll.  As of 2 min ago.

You have one little tooth growing in and you HATE it.  But, I'm happy to start feeding you semi solid food you can CHEW - ok, you're crying harder, I guess I'll come back to this later.

All better.

Things you are fond of:

Greek Yogurt (and my new best friend)  It's hard to give you enough protein since you don't CHEW anything.
Ties on sweatshirts
Baths (water in general)
Wind (which is funny because you used to HATE the wind)
You mobile from Aunt Caroline and Uncle Duane
Standing!!! (you'll walk before you ever crawl silly girl)
Dancing :) on your own or with someone
(you just rolled to your stomach again)
Singing - or when someone sings to you.
Apparently rolling (who knew)

I think you're going to be so much happier now that you can move to the things you want to grab.

You are the best eater.  You eat anything I put in front of you.  Sweet potatoes, apples, peaches, pears, spinach, yogurt, any combo of that and more.

Being 8 months old must be exhausting, because you sure sleep a lot.  Like....somewhere between 9-13 hours a night.  And you still take 2 hour naps during the day.  It helps everyone get the rest they need.

Well.  I'm way more excited about playing with you right now instead of typing, so this post is going to have very few pictures.  ( I didn't check this at all for spelling, get over it, I want to play with my daughter!)

I love you with all my heart, every day even more!!!

7 months (yes, this is VERY late)

Avery Bug,

I'm sorry I've been such a slacker.  Things have been SOOOO crazy!!! With school projects, and family and friends.  You are asleep, and I finally have a few minutes to myself where I'm not doing homework, cleaning the house, doing dishes or folding laundry (although some of that needs to be done).  Daddy is out with Shaun and Cooper and you finally fell back asleep.

You had your first Christmas yesterday and I was so impressed at your alertness!  You enjoyed pulling paper out of the bags and eating the bag itself.  You got a bunch of new toys, books and formula (on wait, that last one is for my benefit).

Ok, so, here's what's new.  You LOVE to stand.   You would much rather stand than anything else.  You enjoy being in your saucer and spinning around.  You also like to sit like a big girl.  You can sit and entertain yourself for quite some time.  You rarely cry unless the following happens:
1 - you're hungry
2 - you're tired
3 - you've pooped
4 - you're on your stomach

Oh yes, that last one is very true.  You HATE being on your stomach for more than about 30 seconds.  You are amazing at rolling from your tummy to your back, but you've yet to roll to your stomach, mostly because you see no reason to be there.  Daddy and I have tried to get you to roll, crawl, push yourself...you're having none of it.  You can scoot backwards out of frustration, then, you get rewarded with a bath, because you love baths!!!

You love to laugh and mimic sounds.  You spit and blow bubbles (or as I call it, drool) you pretend to cough and make silly noises.  You enjoy telling people about your day.  You're much more vocal in the evenings than any other time.  You love to smile at Mommy, Daddy and Aunt Sissy.  Other people are fine too, but we get automatic smiles.  You're not much into snuggling unless you're REALLY tired or being held by me.  You like having your tummy blown on, you like peekaboo, you LOVE to dance and being sang to.  Your smile lights up my whole world.

I'm not sure how much you weigh - I'd guess at most 15 pounds, but you've grown a lot this last month.  You're wearing 3-6 month clothes and just barely starting to grow out of your size 1 diapers.  You sleep, you are a really good sleeper.  You sleep about 12-13 hours a night.  And this is a blessing to Daddy and I.  You even take a couple naps during the day (at least one that's over an hour long).

You have NO teeth, but are a REALLY good eater.  You will eat ALMOST anything I blend up for you.  Last night we made sweet potato, peaches and pears.  You thought that was pretty delicious.  I'm really picky about what I feed you and make sure that if I wouldn't eat it, I'm not going to feed it to you.  I make all your food (except cereal) and you seem to be pretty happy about that.  Grandmom has been pretty awesome about buying us some pretty fun food storage to make preparing food a breeze.

Merry Christmas to the most WONDERFUL little girl in the whole world.  You're such a happy girl and you are a show stopper almost everywhere we go.  Everyone loves you, everywhere we go.  You're such a sweetheart!  I love you!!!!

6 Months - Too Fast

Avery Bug,

I can NOT believe you're six months old today.  The time has FLOWN by!!! I love you more and more each day.  You are my world and brighten my day, every day.  You are about 2 months smaller than a "normal" 6 month old, but what is normal???  I'm guessing you weigh somewhere around 14 pounds, but we haven't been in to the doctor in almost 2 months.  You're JUST fitting into 3-6m clothes.

You smile - all the time.  You give your daddy and I big bashful smiles and grin at almost anyone that smiles at you.  You LOVE to chew on everything.  In order to feel something, you put it in your mouth.  Your favorite is the crinkly fabric.  You started to sit in the last couple of weeks and get significantly stronger every day.  You amaze me!  Peek-a-boo is starting to entertain you, but it's still not your favorite game.  You grab at things, reach for things, and when you're really tired, you rake your fingers across my shirt.

You started to eat green beans, apples and peaches.  But, bananas are by FAR your favorite.  You also like oatmeal over rice cereal.  You're such a good eater!  The only issue we have is you getting distracted by daddy or the animals in the room.

I just happened to look at the clock at the exact right time today - EXACLTY 6 months after you were born.

your feet hit flat to the bottom now :)

Mommy LOVES snuggles!!!

5 Months

Well Avery, things have changed a whole lot in the last few weeks!!!

First, you had your 4 month appointment almost a month ago and you, darling, are in the 2%ile for your weight and the 3%ile for height.  But since you're so proportionality built, the doctor says you're JUST perfect!  I had to admit I was shocked when they told me you only weighed 11.12 pounds....shocked.

We started you on rice cereal a few weeks ago.  You took it on your first bite.  I was so impressed.  Since then you've had a couple bowls of beans and for the first time this morning, you had some apples.  You gave me such a silly face with the tartness of them.  Yesterday morning, you learned that you can make noises on command.  Daddy and I thought you were coughing, but really it's a "laugh" you're trying to do.  You smile when I walk into the room.  You smile at Daddy.  And you smile at Aunt Sissy when you see her in the mornings too.  You're one happy little girl.  You've learned that you can pull your binky out of our mouth and it took you a few weeks to figure out how to get it back in.  You can now turn your binky around and put it back in all by yourself.  You can also turn from your tummy to your back (pretty quickly when you're mad), but you can't go from back to tummy quite yet.

I wish you would sleep through the night, we're still not quite there yet.  We usually get in about 6 hours.  But still not all night.  Last week you slept for 9.5 hours and Daddy went in to make sure you were still breathing.  I think with a couple more pounds on the little body of yours, you'll start sleeping all night.

You're the sweetest little thing in the whole wide world.  You are so amazing and I swear you get cuter ever day, if that's even possible.

I love you Avery!!!

(and you love hunting)

Love you always and always,

Momma
